Oestricher Doosberg Scharfenstein Riesling VDP 1st Growth
A Riesling that brings the character of its site directly into the glass: mineral, precise, with an acidity structure that provides length.
The Spreitzer winery is one of the reliable addresses in the Rheingau. The family cultivates sites around Oestrich-Winkel, including the Doosberg – one of the classic VDP First Growths of the Rheingau. Deep loess-loam and quartzite soils, south-facing slopes right on the Rhine: ideal conditions for Riesling with substance.
In the glass, the Scharfenstein shows ripe yellow peaches and mirabelle plums, underpinned by lime zest and a fine spark of flint. Juicy on the palate, with fresh, well-integrated acidity and a long, slightly salty finish – typical for this corner of the Rheingau.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. With potential for further aging. At the table, it pairs well with
- pan-fried zander or trout fillet
- goat cheese with herbs
- light poultry dishes with lemon jus

The German winery Spreitzer from the Rheingau was founded as early as 1641 and is today owned by Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer. It is located directly on the Rhine, not far from the cities of Mainz and Wiesbaden, and has a total vineyard area of 30 ha, which is distributed over four sites. Among the best sites of the winery are Oestricher Lenchen and Doosberg. A special feature of the winery is the vaulted cellar from the year 1745, in which the produced wines are stored. The soils of the sites consist of loess loam, marl, and partly of quartzite and offer the vines, due to the proximity to the Rhine, an excellent water supply. At Weingut Spreitzer, 97% of the Riesling grape variety is grown and only a small percentage of Pinot Noir. In total, the winery produces and sells approximately 160,000 bottles of wine.
