Oestrich Rosengarten Riesling GG

The Rosengarten is an old monopole site directly at the Spreitzer winery – surrounded by historic dry-stone walls that store heat and shape the parcel's microclimate. The result is a Riesling that is stylistically more reminiscent of the Côte de Beaune than the classic Rheingau school.

The Spreitzer family has been cultivating their vineyards in Oestrich for generations and is one of the most reliable addresses in the Rheingau. The focus is on precise hand-picking, gentle vinification, and long maturation periods – the foundation for the high extract density that distinguishes the Rosengarten.

In the glass, it shows a Riesling with soft, integrated acidity and pronounced saline minerality. Aromas of ripe quince and white peach, underscored by a fine hint of herbs. Medium to full body, creamy texture, long salty finish. Not a wine for the impatient: the high extract needs time to fully unfold. Potential until 2035+.

Recommendation: Sweetbreads with caper butter, grilled turbot, or a mature Comté. Serving temperature 12–14 °C.

Spreitzer

VDP Member Estate

The German winery Spreitzer from the Rheingau was founded as early as 1641 and is today owned by Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer. It is located directly on the Rhine, not far from the cities of Mainz and Wiesbaden, and has a total vineyard area of 30 ha, which is distributed over four sites. Among the best sites of the winery are Oestricher Lenchen and Doosberg. A special feature of the winery is the vaulted cellar from the year 1745, in which the produced wines are stored. The soils of the sites consist of loess loam, marl, and partly of quartzite and offer the vines, due to the proximity to the Rhine, an excellent water supply. At Weingut Spreitzer, 97% of the Riesling grape variety is grown and only a small percentage of Pinot Noir. In total, the winery produces and sells approximately 160,000 bottles of wine.
