Hattenheim Wisselbrunnen Riesling GG

The Hattenheimer Wisselbrunnen is one of the three so-called "Brunnen" sites in the Rheingau — and Spreitzer is one of the wineries that consistently exploits the potential of this site. The result is a dry Riesling with depth and aging potential.

The site is located between Hattenheim and Erbach, facing south-southwest. The tertiary marl soils store water efficiently — even in dry years, the grapes ripen evenly. Spreitzer has been cultivating its Rheingau vineyards for generations and is today one of the most reliable addresses for Grosses Gewächs from the Rheingau.

In the glass, the Wisselbrunnen shows the typical Rheingau Riesling structure: ripe citrus fruit, a hint of white peach, underneath a mineral, almost chalky depth. The acidity is present but integrated — not a sharp pull, but a supporting line that keeps the wine long and fresh on the finish.

Recommendation: Sweetbreads, grilled turbot with caper butter, or a mature Comté. Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Those who wait will be rewarded with more complexity.

Spreitzer

VDP Member Estate

The German winery Spreitzer from the Rheingau was founded as early as 1641 and is today owned by Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer. It is located directly on the Rhine, not far from the cities of Mainz and Wiesbaden, and has a total vineyard area of 30 ha, which is distributed over four sites. Among the best sites of the winery are Oestricher Lenchen and Doosberg. A special feature of the winery is the vaulted cellar from the year 1745, in which the produced wines are stored. The soils of the sites consist of loess loam, marl, and partly of quartzite and offer the vines, due to the proximity to the Rhine, an excellent water supply. At Weingut Spreitzer, 97% of the Riesling grape variety is grown and only a small percentage of Pinot Noir. In total, the winery produces and sells approximately 160,000 bottles of wine.
