Hallgarten Hendelberg Riesling

The Hendelberg is one of the best single vineyards in Hallgarten in the Rheingau — and Spreitzer extracts a Riesling from this sandstone-loam soil that maintains power and finesse in a rare balance.

The Spreitzer winery in Oestrich-Winkel has been cultivating its Rheingau sites for generations with a consistent quality standard. The Hendelberg is sheltered and south-facing; the sandstone and loam soils give the wine its characteristic melt and a firm mineral substance.

In the glass, ripe peach and apricot appear, underpinned by apple and a stony-salty minerality. The body is firm, yet the structure is unusually delicate and velvety — no edges, no harsh acidity, but an invigorating freshness that runs through the entire sip. In the finish, the herbal minerality lingers for a long time, accompanied by a delicate extract sweetness.

Spreitzer

VDP Member Estate

The German winery Spreitzer from the Rheingau was founded as early as 1641 and is today owned by Andreas and Bernd Spreitzer. It is located directly on the Rhine, not far from the cities of Mainz and Wiesbaden, and has a total vineyard area of 30 ha, which is distributed over four sites. Among the best sites of the winery are Oestricher Lenchen and Doosberg. A special feature of the winery is the vaulted cellar from the year 1745, in which the produced wines are stored. The soils of the sites consist of loess loam, marl, and partly of quartzite and offer the vines, due to the proximity to the Rhine, an excellent water supply. At Weingut Spreitzer, 97% of the Riesling grape variety is grown and only a small percentage of Pinot Noir. In total, the winery produces and sells approximately 160,000 bottles of wine.
