Ockfen BOCKSTEIN Riesling dry GG 1.5L

The Bockstein vineyard in Ockfen is considered one of the great Saar sites – blue slate, extremely steep slopes, a microclimate that pushes Riesling to unusual depths. Von Othegraven, one of the most traditional wineries on the Saar, vinifies this Grand Cru with meticulous craftsmanship: spontaneous fermentation included, which initially gives the wine a pronounced yeasty spiciness on the nose – herbal yeast, slightly earthy notes – before ripe apricot and fruit stone emerge beneath.

On the palate, the Bockstein GG is lean and precise: delicately juicy, with a firm acid structure and a drive that keeps the wine vibrant. A restrained extract and fruit sweetness from stone fruit balances the slightly tart, mineral-slate character on the palate. The astringency is present, but integrated – not resistance, but definition. The finish is long, with stone fruit and a saline minerality.

The magnum bottle (1.5 l) slows down the aging process, giving this wine even more time to develop. Drinking window: 2026–2038. Pairs well with pike-perch fillet on beurre blanc, aged Comté cheese, or scallops with lemon butter. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C.

von Othegraven

Maximilian von Othegraven – a winery steeped in history. Founded in the early 16th century, it enjoys a romantic location on the banks of the Saar River, opposite the village of Kanzem, surrounded by a park with rare trees. Family-owned since 1805, the estate was taken over by Günther Jauch and Dorothea Sihler-Jauch from their great-aunt in 2010. With an uncompromising commitment to quality, they have elevated it to the top ranks of German Riesling producers. Right outside the door: the south-facing Kanzemer Altenberg vineyard – one of Germany's greatest Grand Crus. Mineral intensity, delicate fruit spice, vineyard peach, ripe apples. Floral, balanced, magnificent.
