Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Kabinett

This Riesling Kabinett from the Saar region focuses on tension rather than power: apple fruit, lively acidity, and a smoky flint note, carried by cool minerality.

The von Othegraven winery is located in Kanzem on the Saar, which belongs to the Mosel wine-growing region. The Kanzemer Altenberg is one of the region's renowned vineyards. The vines are rooted in grey slate and weathered red slate. These soils noticeably shape the wine, especially in its stony, smoky aromatics.

On the nose, the apple takes center stage and brings fullness. On the palate, the wine becomes lean and taut, the acidity creates tension, and the minerality remains cool. Flint and fine smoky nuances accompany the clear finish.

Serve it at 8–10 °C. It pairs well with fried trout, smoked salmon, sushi, or a salad with fresh goat cheese. It also works as an aperitif on a warm evening.

VDP Member Estate

Maximilian von Othegraven – a winery with history. Founded in the early 16th century, it is romantically situated on the Saar, opposite the village of Kanzem, surrounded by a park with rare trees. In the family since 1805.

In 2010, Günther Jauch and Dorothea Sihler-Jauch took over the estate from their great-aunt. With an uncompromising commitment to quality, they led it to the top of German Riesling producers.

Right outside the door: the south-facing Kanzemer Altenberg – one of the truly great German Grand Crus. Mineral density, delicate fruity spice, vineyard peach, ripe apples. Floral, balanced, magnificent.
