Kanzem ALTENBERG Riesling dry GG

The Kanzemer Altenberg is the heart of von Othegraven — an extremely steep south-facing slope directly on the Saar, which Günther Jauch took over in 2010 and has since consistently developed into one of the most precise wineries in the Saar.

The steep slope necessitates hand-harvesting, the slate soil stores heat and releases it slowly at night—the result is a Riesling with unusual ripeness and a firm acid structure. In the glass, aromas of yellow plum, mirabelle, and quince emerge, underpinned by flint and a salty, mineral character typical of the Saar. The body is dense without heaviness, the tannins are fine, and the finish is long and spicy.

von Othegraven

Maximilian von Othegraven – a winery steeped in history. Founded in the early 16th century, it enjoys a romantic location on the banks of the Saar River, opposite the village of Kanzem, surrounded by a park with rare trees. Family-owned since 1805, the estate was taken over by Günther Jauch and Dorothea Sihler-Jauch from their great-aunt in 2010. With an uncompromising commitment to quality, they have elevated it to the top ranks of German Riesling producers. Right outside the door: the south-facing Kanzemer Altenberg vineyard – one of Germany's greatest Grand Crus. Mineral intensity, delicate fruit spice, vineyard peach, ripe apples. Floral, balanced, magnificent.
