Nackenheim Riesling dry QW Rheinhessen - VDP. From First Growths 0.75L

From the Roter Hang in Nackenheim, one of the most striking steep slopes in Rheinhessen, comes this Riesling from the Kühling-Gillot winery — classified as VDP.Erste Lage, meaning it comes from one of the region's defined top-tier vineyards. The red clay slate that gives the slope its name is not a marketing term, but a geological peculiarity: it stores heat, releases minerals, and shapes a Riesling with unusual structure for Rheinhessen.

Kühling-Gillot farms biodynamically and is one of the wineries that has significantly shaped Nackenheim's reputation in recent years. The location on the banks of the Rhine, with a view of the river and steep slopes, produces Riesling with clearly defined acidity and a minerality that one would sooner expect on the Mosel or Nahe.

In the glass, it shows a dry Riesling with aromas of white peach, citrus zest, and a distinct mineral undertone — salty, almost chalky on the finish. The acidity is present but integrated, the body dense without being heavy.

Serve it at 10–12 °C with pan-fried zander with caper butter, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or a ripe goat cheese. It also makes a fine figure as a standalone wine for the evening.
