Nierstein Riesling Kabinett QW Rheinhessen 0.75L

A Kabinett from the Roter Hang – this is Riesling in its most light-footed, but by no means shallow, form. Kühling-Gillot extracts everything from the famous Rotliegend soil of Nierstein that this volcanic rock formation has to offer in terms of minerality and tension.

The Kühling-Gillot winery is among the most prestigious estates in Rheinhessen. The vineyards on the Roter Hang (Red Slope) are among the most historically significant Riesling terroirs in Germany – the deep red Rotliegend slate retains heat while simultaneously imparting a pronounced minerality to the vines. The result is wines with character that far exceed their weight.

In the glass, the Kabinett displays delicate aromas of white peach, apricot, and fresh lime, underpinned by a subtle slate note. The natural residual sweetness is integrated with a lively acidity, giving the wine a vibrant and not at all heavy character – typical of the Kabinett designation from top terroir. The finish is long, juicy, and marked by a touch of spice.

Best served at 8–10 °C . Pairs perfectly with spicy Asian cuisine, goat cheese, or salmon with dill. Also a good choice on its own as an aperitif.

Weingut Kühling-Gillot

Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld's winery is located on the Rhine terrace. Kühling-Gillot is distinguished by its organic farming practices, which have been expanded to include biodynamic methods since 2005. For Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld, the European hare symbolizes fertility and joie de vivre. In recent years, the winery has developed into one of the absolute top producers in Germany. The slate soil of the famous Roter Hang (Red Slope) around Nierstein and Nackenheim produces wines whose blend of delicate fruit and vibrant minerality represents something of an ideal example of a great dry wine.
