Pettenthal Riesling GG QW Rheinhessen 0.75L

Pettenthal is one of Rheinhessen's great Riesling vineyards—a steep slope above the Rhine near Nierstein, whose red slate (Rotliegendes) gives the wine a distinctive mineral depth. Kühling-Gillot cultivates the vineyard biodynamically and is among the wineries that have established Rheinhessen as a serious Riesling destination in recent years.

In the glass, this Riesling reveals itself as deliberately restrained in its fruitiness: peach kernel, lemon zest, and a hint of grapefruit peel—tart, precise, without sweetness. This is complemented by the salinity typical of Rotliegend vineyards and an acidity structure that lends the wine a lean and lingering quality. Not a crowd-pleaser, but a wine with character.

Best served between 10 and 12 °C . Pairs well with turbot with beurre blanc, pike-perch on leeks, or a mature mountain cheese. Its drinking window easily extends to 2032—those with patience will be rewarded with greater complexity.

Weingut Kühling-Gillot

Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld's winery is located on the Rhine terrace. Kühling-Gillot is distinguished by its organic farming practices, which have been expanded to include biodynamic methods since 2005. For Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld, the European hare symbolizes fertility and joie de vivre. In recent years, the winery has developed into one of the absolute top producers in Germany. The slate soil of the famous Roter Hang (Red Slope) around Nierstein and Nackenheim produces wines whose blend of delicate fruit and vibrant minerality represents something of an ideal example of a great dry wine.
