Kreuz Spätburgunder GG QW Rheinhessen 0.75L

The Kreuz Spätburgunder GG from Kühling-Gillot comes from one of the most exciting single vineyards in Rheinhessen — a dry red wine that explores the Pinot Noir qualities of this region with Burgundian precision.

Kühling-Gillot is one of the showcase wineries of Rheinhessen. Carolin Spanier-Gillot manages the estate biodynamically and focuses on site-specific wines with a clear profile of origin. The Kreuz vineyard in Bodenheim provides Spätburgunder with the depth necessary for a Grosses Gewächs — the highest quality level of the VDP.

In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red. On the nose, dark cherry, elderberry, and fresh herbs, underneath an earthy, slightly mineral undertone that makes the site palpable. On the palate, medium body, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a long, spicy finish.

Best served at 16–17 °C. Pairs with venison fillet with wild mushrooms, roasted duck, or ripe Époisses.

The winery of Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld is located on the Rhine terrace. What is special about Kühling-Gillot is the ecological method of cultivation, which has been expanded by bio-dynamics since 2005. For Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld, the hare embodies the symbol of fertility and joie de vivre.

In recent years, the winery has developed into one of the absolute top businesses in Germany. The slate base of the famous Roter Hang around Nierstein and Nackenheim creates wines that, with their mixture of fine fruit and vibrant minerality, represent something like the ideal type of a great dry wine.
