Kühling-Gillot Hase Sauvignon Blanc dry

An everyday white wine that needs no long explanations – fresh, aromatic, and ready to drink immediately. The Hase from Kühling-Gillot is the uncomplicated entry into the world of one of the most well-known biodynamic wineries in Rheinhessen.

Kühling-Gillot has been managing its vineyards around Oppenheim and Nierstein for years according to biodynamic principles – Demeter-certified, with consistent avoidance of synthetic pesticides. The Hase stands for the accessible side of the winery: no wood, no long maceration time, no effort in the cellar that covers the natural character of the grape variety. Sauvignon Blanc shows itself in Rheinhessen with a somewhat softer acid structure than, for example, in the Loire – riper fruit profile, less edge.

In the glass, gooseberry and white peach dominate, complemented by citrus peel and a fresh apricot note in the background. The palate is light-footed and sparkling, the acidity enlivens without dominating. No fat, no wood, long fruit finish with a green, slightly herbal note – typical for the grape variety.

Fresh summer wine at a good price

A sparkling summer wine with a wonderfully fresh note. Fits great with fish, salad or just with cheese.

Too bad, the label promises more.

Unfortunately fell short of all expectations. Too acidic, absence of any aromas. More show than substance! Unfortunately, Germans can rarely make good white wine.

Sparkling summer wine at a good price

Very good price-performance ratio. Upscale Sauvignon blanc with a refreshing note. A very nice summer wine.

Too dry for my taste!

As with the Rosé, I was misled by the label, the description, and the reviews from various providers for this wine as well and actually wanted to give it as a gift to friends for Easter. For me, as...

Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld's winery is located on the Rhine terrace. Kühling-Gillot is distinguished by its organic farming practices, which have been expanded to include biodynamic methods since 2005. For Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld, the European hare symbolizes fertility and joie de vivre. In recent years, the winery has developed into one of the absolute top producers in Germany. The slate soil of the famous Roter Hang (Red Slope) around Nierstein and Nackenheim produces wines whose blend of delicate fruit and vibrant minerality represents something of an ideal example of a great dry wine.
