Hipping Riesling GG QW Rheinhessen

Riesling from the Roter Hang in Nierstein: The Hipping is considered one of the defining sites of Rheinhessen, and this Großes Gewächs shows why. Dry, with power and drive at the same time.

The Kühling-Gillot winery is one of the well-known producers in the region, and the wine carries the organic label. The red slate on the slope defines the style: plenty of extract, plus a minerality that gives the wine tension.

Rich yellow in the glass. On the nose, stone fruit, yellow and red fruits, plus orange notes and a spicy side with sesame and green tea. On the palate, juicy and dense, with a viscous texture. The acidity remains finely in the background; at the end, there is a spice of red Kampot pepper and herbs. The finish is cool and lingers long.

Recommendation: Serve it at 10 to 12 °C, preferably in a large white wine glass. It goes with fried zander, sweetbreads, or an aged mountain cheese, as well as dishes with ginger and coriander.

The Winery

Weingut Kühling-Gillot

VDP Member Estate

The winery of Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld is located on the Rhine terrace. The special thing about Kühling-Gillot is the biodynamics that have been practiced since 2005. For Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld, the brown hare embodies the symbol of fertility and joie de vivre.

In recent years, the winery has developed into one of the absolute top estates in Germany. The slate subsoil of the famous Roter Hang around Nierstein and Nackenheim creates wines that, with their mixture of fine fruit and vibrant minerality, represent something like the ideal type of a great dry wine.
