Ölberg Riesling GG QW Rheinhessen 1.5L

A dry Riesling with tension and depth: The Ölberg GG from Kühling-Gillot comes as a magnum (1.5 l) and bears the clear signature of the Roter Hang.

The grapes grow in the Ölberg site near Bodenheim, a steep slope with full southern exposure and a gradient of more than 60%. The soil of limestone and red clay slate leaves a noticeable mark on the wine. The Kühling-Gillot winery is certified organic and vinifies the wine as a VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS®, according to the source in traditional barrels with spontaneous fermentation.

In the glass, vineyard peach, nectarine, and honeydew melon stand alongside floral accents. On the palate, the Riesling feels dense and juicy, carried by lively, precise acidity and salty minerality. The finish is long and mineral.

Recommendation: Serve it at 10 to 12 °C, preferably decanted. It goes with fried zander, sweetbreads, scallops, or mature hard cheese. The large format makes it the wine for a set table with several guests.

The Winery

Weingut Kühling-Gillot

VDP Member Estate

The winery of Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld is located on the Rhine terrace. The special thing about Kühling-Gillot is the biodynamics that have been practiced since 2005. For Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld, the brown hare embodies the symbol of fertility and joie de vivre.

In recent years, the winery has developed into one of the absolute top estates in Germany. The slate subsoil of the famous Roter Hang around Nierstein and Nackenheim creates wines that, with their mixture of fine fruit and vibrant minerality, represent something like the ideal type of a great dry wine.
