Pettenthal Riesling Auslese luscious QW Rheinhessen VDP.GROSSE LAGE

Luscious Riesling Auslese from the VDP.GROSSE LAGE Pettenthal in Rheinhessen: plenty of sweetness, carried by a firm, lively acidity.

The Kühling-Gillot winery cultivates sites on the Roter Hang, and the Pettenthal is one of the most famous there. The Riesling vines root deep in stony soils, which give the wine a fine mineral tension. As an Auslese, it comes from fully ripe, selected grapes.

It glows golden yellow in the glass. On the nose, quince, candied fruits, herbs and delicate notes of roasted nuts are revealed. On the palate follow ripe Mirabelle plum, candied orange and a hint of exotic fruit. The sweetness feels velvety, the acidity keeps it in balance, the finish is long and mineral.

Serve it at 8–10 °C. It pairs with desserts with apricot or quince, with creamy blue cheese or with finely spiced roast goose. You can also pour it neat at the end of a festive meal.

The Winery

Weingut Kühling-Gillot

VDP Member Estate

The winery of Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld is located on the Rhine terrace. The special thing about Kühling-Gillot is the biodynamics that have been practiced since 2005. For Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld, the brown hare embodies the symbol of fertility and joie de vivre.

In recent years, the winery has developed into one of the absolute top estates in Germany. The slate subsoil of the famous Roter Hang around Nierstein and Nackenheim creates wines that, with their mixture of fine fruit and vibrant minerality, represent something like the ideal type of a great dry wine.
