Hipping Riesling GG QW Rheinhessen 0.75L

The Roter Hang in Nierstein is one of Germany's most famous Riesling sites — red Rotliegend sandstone that stores heat and gives the vines a mineral depth that is rarely as pronounced elsewhere. The Kühling-Gillot winery, a staple in Rheinhessen for decades and certified organic, produces a Grosses Gewächs from the Hipping site that transfers the character of this soil directly into the glass.

In the glass, the wine glows in a rich yellow. The nose reveals stone fruit aromas — ripe mirabelle, a hint of apricot — complemented by spicy nuances of sesame and green tea, which give the Riesling an unusual complexity. Dry and taut on the palate, with a lively acidity that keeps the wine light-footed despite its density. The finish is long, salty-mineral, and shows the typical signature of the Roter Hang.

Best served at 10–12 °C. Pairs well with dishes with a clear acidic structure: zander on beurre blanc, grilled scallops with lemon butter, or a mature Comté. The wine also pairs harmoniously with Asian-spiced dishes — miso salmon, ginger prawns.

Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld's winery is located on the Rhine terrace. Kühling-Gillot is distinguished by its organic farming practices, which have been expanded to include biodynamic methods since 2005. For Carolin and Oliver Battenfeld, the European hare symbolizes fertility and joie de vivre. In recent years, the winery has developed into one of the absolute top producers in Germany. The slate soil of the famous Roter Hang (Red Slope) around Nierstein and Nackenheim produces wines whose blend of delicate fruit and vibrant minerality represents something of an ideal example of a great dry wine.
