Pinot Gris Reserve Pauline

Pinot Gris Reserve Pauline
A Pinot Gris that rewards patience: long grape ripening on the vine, then aging in wooden barrels — the result is a white wine with real substance.
Markus Pfaffmann farms his winery in the southern Palatinate, a region that suits Pinot Gris particularly well: warm summers, loamy-sandy soils, early ripening. The Reserve Pauline — named after his youngest daughter — belongs to the upper part of the range: here, grapes are selected, left on the vine longer, and aged in wooden barrels.
In the glass, a broad aroma profile appears: ripe pear, Cox Orange apple, and peach from the long time on the slope, plus caramel and vanilla from the wood aging. Full-bodied texture, juicy core, long finish. Not a light summer wine — but a Pinot Gris with depth that performs best at the table.
- Serving temperature: 12–14 °C
- Food recommendation: Pan-fried veal fillet, pasta with truffle cream sauce, strong Munster, or grilled turbot

Walsheim, Southern Palatinate – Latitude 49°14'01", Longitude 8°07'20". Behind these coordinates lies a small village that hardly anyone knows at first glance, and that is exactly what makes it interesting. Here, between the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine plain, the Karl Pfaffmann winery grows its grapes – in a corner of the Palatinate blessed with plenty of sun, a mild climate, and deep soils.
The Southern Palatinate is one of the warmest wine-growing regions in Germany. You can tell by the wines: they have body, ripeness, and a directness that requires no long explanations. Karl Pfaffmann utilizes this potential and keeps returning to one fundamental idea – wine that tells the story of its origin.
