Markus Pfaffmann Sauvignon Blanc dry

A Sauvignon Blanc that doesn't take any detours: fresh, spicy, and with the clear signature of the southern Pfalz.

The Karl Pfaffmann winery is one of the established names in the Pfalz wine-growing region. The family manages their vineyards with a focus on varietal, characterful wines – and this Sauvignon Blanc is a good example of how this internationally widespread grape variety finds its own tone in the Pfalz: slightly riper in fruit than in the Loire, but with the same aromatic clarity.

In the glass, it shows the typical aromas of the variety: gooseberry, green apple, a hint of freshly mown grass, and a light herbal spice in the background. On the palate, it feels lively – the acidity is present but not sharp, giving the wine its fresh drive. The finish is dry, spicy, and pleasantly persistent. Not a heavy wine, but one that whets the appetite.

  • Food: Goat cheese, white asparagus with herb vinaigrette, grilled sea bass, salads with mustard dressing, or light pasta with basil pesto
  • Temperature: 8–10 °C
  • Occasion: Summer evening on the terrace, uncomplicated companion for lunch, or as an aperitif before dinner

Karl Pfaffmann

Walsheim, Southern Palatinate – Latitude 49°14'01", Longitude 8°07'20". Behind these coordinates lies a small village that hardly anyone knows at first glance, and that is exactly what makes it interesting. Here, between the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine plain, the Karl Pfaffmann winery grows its grapes – in a corner of the Palatinate blessed with plenty of sun, a mild climate, and deep soils.

The Southern Palatinate is one of the warmest wine-growing regions in Germany. You can tell by the wines: they have body, ripeness, and a directness that requires no long explanations. Karl Pfaffmann utilizes this potential and keeps returning to one fundamental idea – wine that tells the story of its origin.
