Markus Pfaffmann Riesling dry
A Riesling that takes no detours: herbal minerality, clear structure, direct freshness — a typical Palatinate wine with depth.
Karl Pfaffmann cultivates his vineyards in the southern Palatinate around Walsheim and Burrweiler. The region is known for its limestone and loess soils, which give the Riesling a characteristic mineral character – less playful than in the Mosel or Nahe regions, but richer in body and with more spice.
The nose reveals herbs, wet stone, and a hint of stone fruit, which remains in the background. On the palate, it is straightforward and delicately juicy: the acidity is present but not sharp—it carries the wine through a medium-length, mineral-spiced finish. No oak influence, no harshness. Everything is perfectly balanced.
Drinking recommendation:
- Temperature: 10–12 °C
- Goes well with: Palatinate Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), grilled pike-perch with herb butter, goat cheese or a simple tarte flambée
- Drinking window: now until 2027
