Markus Pfaffmann Riesling dry

Markus Pfaffmann Riesling dry
A Riesling that makes no detours: herbal minerality, clear structure, direct freshness — a typical Palatinate wine with depth.
Karl Pfaffmann manages his sites in the southern Palatinate around Walsheim and Burrweiler. The region is known for its limestone and loess soils, which give the Riesling a characteristic mineral vein — less playful than on the Mosel or Nahe, but fuller-bodied and with more spice.
On the nose, herbs, wet stone, and a hint of stone fruit appear, which stays in the background. On the palate, straightforward and fine-juicy: the acidity is present but not sharp – it carries the wine through a medium-long, mineral-spicy finish. No wood usage, no edges. Everything fits.
Drinking recommendation:
- Temperature: 10–12 °C
- Pairs with: Palatinate Saumagen, grilled zander with herb butter, goat cheese, or a simple tarte flambée

Walsheim, Southern Palatinate – Latitude 49°14'01", Longitude 8°07'20". Behind these coordinates lies a small village that hardly anyone knows at first glance, and that is exactly what makes it interesting. Here, between the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine plain, the Karl Pfaffmann winery grows its grapes – in a corner of the Palatinate blessed with plenty of sun, a mild climate, and deep soils.
The Southern Palatinate is one of the warmest wine-growing regions in Germany. You can tell by the wines: they have body, ripeness, and a directness that requires no long explanations. Karl Pfaffmann utilizes this potential and keeps returning to one fundamental idea – wine that tells the story of its origin.
