Dr. Loosen Graacher Domprobst Riesling Grosses Gewächs dry
The Graacher Domprobst vineyard is one of the great Riesling sites of the Middle Moselle – blue-grey slate, steep slope, direct sunlight. Ernst Loosen, who took over the winery in 1988, consciously preserved the old vines of the site: vines 60 years old and over produce concentrated musts with natural depth.
The Grand Cru is fermented in used oak barrels and matures there for at least twelve months. The oak remains in the background – no vanilla notes, no toasty aromas – but it lends the wine stability and creates that creamy texture that characterizes the estate's style. The nose reveals white peach, mint, and a floral undertone; with aeration, a subtle slate spice emerges. On the palate, it is clearly structured, vibrant, with a long, mineral finish and rich extract. Decanter awarded the 2017 vintage 91 points.
