Our red wine cuvée Phaia is certainly known to one or two wine fans. This sets a monument to "Phaia", that mythical wild sow that was once slain by the hero Theseus.
This year, it is joined by Philia - a wonderfully fresh, juicy, single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc. The vines for the Philia also stand on sandstone-containing soils of the Palatinate, which transfer their power and minerality to the wine. After the grape harvest and vinification, this wine matures for at least nine months in acacia wood barrels. This incredibly firm and hard wood ensures a very charming, yet crisp-fresh Sauvignon Blanc.
In allusion to the "Filia" - the daughter, the descendant, but also the offspring, we finally came across the name "Philia". This is what the ancient Greeks called friendly love. It is its bond that connects connoisseurs and wine.

Waste of money!
The Winery
The German winery is based in the Palatinate and is managed by Dr. Ernst F. Loosen. The 22 hectares of vineyards are divided into six different sites, which include the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, the Erdener Treppchen, or the Graacher Himmelreich.
The slate soils serve as good heat reservoirs for cool nights, and the Moselle river reflects sunlight onto the steep slopes during the day, where the grapes ripen.
Almost exclusively the Riesling grape variety is grown and used for production at the winery. Only 2% of the wines are made from Burgundy varieties and occasionally from Cabernet Sauvignon or Dornfelder. The family business produces up to 180,000 bottles of wine annually.
