Boschendal Nicolas
The Boschendal Nicolas is a powerful red wine from the Franschhoek Valley – one of the most historically significant wine regions in South Africa, shaped by Huguenot heritage and Atlantic breezes from the nearby Cape of Good Hope.
Boschendal is one of the oldest wineries in the Cape region, founded in 1685. Today, the estate manages around 400 hectares of vineyards in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. The Nicolas bears the name as a tribute to the Huguenot founders and stands for the classic, full-bodied style of the house: 16 months of barrique aging, careful selection from the best plots.
Deep ruby red appears in the glass. On the nose, plum and black cherry, underpinned by mocha, a trace of vanilla, and light cedar wood. On the palate, medium to full body, well-integrated tannins, a round acid structure. The finish is long, spicy, with a hint of dark chocolate.
Drinking recommendation: Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs with braised lamb shoulder, beef sirloin, or strong hard cheese like Manchego.

In 1685, Jean Le Long founded the Boschendal winery in South Africa. The name translates to "forest and valley," aptly describing the region 60 kilometers east of Cape Town where the winery is located. The winemakers cultivate a total of 350 hectares of vineyards, spread across altitudes ranging from 120 to 350 meters, allowing different wines to be grown under the optimal conditions for each. Boschendal's vineyards are characterized by clay soils and the so-called Tukuli soils, on which white and red grape varieties are grown for both classic wines and sparkling wines. In the winery's modern cellars, 2.88 million bottles of wine are bottled annually.
