1685 Sauvignon Blanc Grande Cuvée

1685 Sauvignon Blanc Grande Cuvée
A Sauvignon Blanc from the Western Cape, which develops more depth than many of its varietal counterparts due to a long, cool growing season — firm structure meets aromatic density.
Boschendal is one of South Africa's oldest wineries: founded in 1685 in the Franschhoek Valley, the wine's name also reflects the founding year. The estate lies in the heart of the Western Cape, where cool Atlantic winds and the proximity to the mountains ensure moderate temperatures and long ripening periods—ideal conditions for aromatically precise Sauvignon Blanc.
In the glass, the Grande Cuvée displays aromas of white peach and gooseberry, underpinned by a delicate herbal note and a hint of green asparagus—typical of cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is fresh, with lively acidity and a clean, lingering finish.
Best served between 8 and 10 °C . Pairs well with goat cheese, steamed asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or pan-fried cod with herb butter. Also a reliable choice as an aperitif on warmer evenings. Drink now until 2027.

In 1685, Jean Le Long founded the Boschendal winery in South Africa. The name translates to "forest and valley," aptly describing the region 60 kilometers east of Cape Town where the winery is located. The winemakers cultivate a total of 350 hectares of vineyards, spread across altitudes ranging from 120 to 350 meters, allowing different wines to be grown under the optimal conditions for each. Boschendal's vineyards are characterized by clay soils and the so-called Tukuli soils, on which white and red grape varieties are grown for both classic wines and sparkling wines. In the winery's modern cellars, 2.88 million bottles of wine are bottled annually.
