Argiolas Is Solinas Riserva Carignano del Sulcis DOC
Carignano del Sulcis in its most concentrated form: old vines on sandy coastal soils in southwest Sardinia, 12 months of barrique aging, plus the Mediterranean climate of Sulcis — the Is Solinas Riserva from Argiolas shows what this underestimated grape variety can achieve.
Argiolas from Serdiana is considered Sardinia's leading winery. Since the 1980s, the family, together with oenologist Giacomo Tachis—known for Sassicaia and Tignanello—has redefined the potential of Sardinian grape varieties. The Is Solinas comes from old Carignano vines in Sulcis, one of the few areas worldwide where the variety grows on ungrafted vines in deep sandy soil, untouched by phylloxera.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers blackberry, myrtle, and rosemary, along with clove and a hint of leather from barrel aging. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with soft, well-integrated tannins and a warm, spicy structure. The finish is long and slightly balsamic.
Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Drinking window until 2027. Pairs well with leg of lamb with maquis herbs, wild boar ragout or aged Pecorino Sardo.
