Jumilla – powerful Monastrell wines from the heart of Southeast Spain
Jumilla is located in the hinterland of the Spanish Levante, far enough from the sea to experience a distinctly continental climate: hot summers, cold nights, barren soils. These are exactly the conditions that make the region the home of one of Spain's most idiosyncratic red wine grapes – the Monastrell. The vine has been thriving here for centuries and produces wines that you recognize immediately: dark in color, full-bodied, with ripe fruit character and a warmth that is typical of the south.
Monastrell from Jumilla is not a quiet wine. It has substance, depth, and an unmistakable character – but without unnecessary heaviness when it is well-crafted. Whether young and uncomplicated or with a bit more maturity and structure: the range is wider than many expect.
