Yecla – powerful red wines from the heart of Murcia
Yecla is located in the southeast of Spain, in the Murcia region, and is one of the less well-known but certainly interesting wine-growing areas of the Iberian Peninsula. The climate is continental and hot, the soils barren – conditions that produce wines with character. The focus is on the Monastrell grape variety, which thrives particularly well here and results in powerful, dark-fruit-driven red wines with noticeable body.
What to expect from Yecla wines
In this hot, dry corner of Spain, Monastrell produces wines with a lot of substance and a warm, Mediterranean character. The red wines from Yecla are typically full-bodied and rich – not for the faint of heart, but ideal for anyone who likes their wine with personality. In addition to classic red wines, there are also sweet and semi-sweet styles in this appellation that offer a nice change.
