Bodegas Castaño –
Monastrell pioneers from the heart of Yecla
Bodegas Castaño is a family story that began in the 1950s with Ramón Castaño Santa. He vinified his first wines in the southeastern Spanish region of Yecla and recognized early on what the Monastrell grape can achieve in this barren, sun-drenched landscape – long before the region received international attention.
Today, the family manages nearly 500 hectares around Yecla. The soils are demanding, the summers long and hot, the yields low. The result is wines with real substance: dark berry fruit, velvety texture, a finish with warmth and length. Some sites are managed organically, and old vines provide the basis for the aged barrique wines.
The range extends from accessible young wines for everyday drinking to characterful cuvées from old Monastrell vines – ideal with lamb, braised meat, or strong hard cheese.
