Monastrell power from the heart of Jumilla
Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil is a family winery from Jumilla, one of the hottest and driest wine regions in Spain. Here, in the southeast of the Meseta, old Monastrell vines grow on barren limestone soils – without irrigation, with deep roots that have to search for their own water. What ripens under this sun carries the climate in the glass: dark berry fruit, an earthy undertone, warmth that does not feel heavy.
The Gil family manages their vineyards with the respect that old vines deserve. No polishing, no covering up – the wines show what Jumilla can do when you give nature the space it needs. Powerful in the first impression, with a depth that only fully unfolds with some time in the glass.
The wines from Juan Gil go well with dishes that are similarly grounded: braised lamb, leg of lamb with herbs from Provence, aged Manchego.
