Schloss Proschwitz Pinot Gris dry

A Pinot Gris that shows what Saxony is capable of: firm structure, lively freshness and a depth that is not always found in this grape variety.

Schloss Proschwitz is Saxony's oldest privately owned winery—painstakingly repurchased and rebuilt by Prince zur Lippe after German reunification. The Elbe Valley vineyards, with their sandy loess soils and continental climate, create a distinctive style: less opulent than Burgundy wines from the south, but mineral and crisp.

In the glass, ripe pear and apple, along with a hint of candied citrus, hazelnut, and delicate herbal spice. The body is lean, but by no means thin—a firm acidity gives the wine drive and length. On the palate, a subtle minerality develops, supporting the finish.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs well with pan-fried pike-perch with caper butter, vitello tonnato, or a plate of mature mountain cheese. Also a good choice to accompany mildly spicy Asian dishes. Ready to drink now, no rush.

Prince zur Lippe

The Prinz zur Lippe winery – Saxony's oldest winery. After being expropriated in 1945, it was returned to family ownership in 1990 by Dr. Georg zur Lippe. Today, it cultivates 87 hectares of vineyards in the prime locations of Kloster Heilig Kreuz Meißen and Schloss Proschwitz. Granite and loess loam characterize the soils. Elbling, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Goldriesling are grown – producing approximately 400,000 bottles annually. The Proschwitz terroir lends the wines delicate acidity, subtle aromas, and a rich minerality. A taste experience as unique as a fingerprint.
