Philipp Kuhn Kirschgarten Pinot Noir GG dry
The Kirschgarten is one of the most renowned sites in the Palatinate — and Philipp Kuhn extracts a Pinot Noir from this piece of limestone rock that combines elegance and depth in one glass.
The Philipp Kuhn winery in Laumersheim has been one of the most reliable addresses for great Pinot Noir in the Palatinate for years. The Kirschgarten site stands on limestone marl with black earth over limestone rock — a soil that gives the Pinot Noir minerality and structure without breaking the varietal-typical finesse. As a Grosses Gewächs, this wine carries the highest standard of the VDP system.
In the glass, it shows dark cassis, ripe black cherry, and plum, underpinned by a fine wood frame. The tannins are dense but silky — no resistance, but backbone. The finish is long, with a cool, mineral note that keeps the fruit in balance.
Recommendation: Serve at 16–17 °C. Pairs with duck breast with cherry sauce, wild boar loin, or a mature Époisses. With sufficient cellar time, it unfolds further.
