The Philipp Kuhn winery in Laumersheim has been one of the most reliable producers of exceptional Pinot Noir in the Palatinate for years. The Kirschgarten vineyard sits on calcareous marl with black soil over limestone bedrock—a soil that imparts minerality and structure to the Pinot Noir without compromising its characteristic finesse. As a Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru), this wine meets the highest standards of the VDP system.

In the glass, it displays dark cassis, ripe black cherry, and plum, underpinned by a delicate oak framework. The tannins are dense yet silky—not resistance, but backbone. The finish is long, with a cool, mineral note that balances the fruit.

Recommendation: Serve at 16–17 °C. Pairs well with duck breast with cherry sauce, wild boar loin, or a mature Époisses. Drinking window: now until 2030+; with sufficient cellaring, it will develop further.
