Weissburgunder Laumersheimer limestone rock

Weissburgunder Laumersheimer limestone rock
A Pinot Blanc that shows what limestone can do: dense, structured, with a salty minerality that is still present in the finish.
Philipp Kuhn is one of the most reliable wineries in the Palatinate. His Laumersheim limestone vineyard bears the soil type in its name—and you can taste it. The location on the shell limestone base gives the Pinot Blanc a tension that is hardly achievable when grown on sandy or loamy soils.
On the nose, roasted nuts, a hint of herbs, and a mineral flint note. On the palate, firm and racy: taut acidity, light, velvety tannins—unusual for a Pinot Blanc, but perfectly harmonious here. Accompanying these are toasty notes and a hint of mirabelle plum cake. Very dry, deep, with a long, saline finish of minerality and fruitcake.
Pairs well with veal medallions with herb butter, scallops on pea purée, or a mature Comté cheese. Serve at 12–13 °C .
