Guado al Tasso Matarocchio Bolgheri DOC Superiore

Guado al Tasso Matarocchio Bolgheri DOC Superiore
A wine made entirely from Cabernet Franc – that's a rarity in Tuscany. The Matarocchio from Guado al Tasso demonstrates what this grape variety can achieve when it reaches full ripeness in the soils of Bolgheri.
The Guado al Tasso winery belongs to the Antinori family and is located in the heart of the Bolgheri DOC, a few kilometers from the Tyrrhenian coast. The Mediterranean climate, with its long, dry summers and mild winters, ensures even ripening; the sandy, loamy soils impart a distinctive minerality to the wines. Matarocchio is the estate's flagship project for the Cabernet Franc grape variety – consistently vinified as a single varietal and designed for maximum aging potential.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and violet, underpinned by graphite, tobacco, and a hint of roasted herbs. On the palate, it is dense and complex: velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long finish with notes of dark chocolate and cedar. Not a heavy, powerful wine – rather precise and profound.
Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Drinking window 2025–2035, with potential beyond. Decanting recommended. Pairs well with: roasted leg of lamb with rosemary, wild boar ragout, mature stagionato pecorino, or Tuscan bistecca alla Fiorentina.
