Privy Councillor J. Late Harvest Dry
The Geheimrat J Spätlese trocken is the flagship wine of the Geheimrat J. Wegeler wineries — a dry Rheingau Riesling that combines the depth of several top vineyard sites in a single wine.
The estate in Oestrich-Winkel operates according to the principles of the great Bordeaux châteaux: no single vineyard designation on the label, but instead a blend from up to 15 top-tier vineyards in the Rheingau region. The result is a wine with the complexity of a single-vineyard Riesling, but with its own distinctive character.
In the glass, it displays a clear, straw-yellow color. The nose offers ripe quince and yellow apple, underpinned by a subtle minerality typical of the Rheingau slate soil. On the palate, a lively citrus note—lime, a touch of grapefruit—carves through the wine, supported by fresh, well-integrated acidity. The finish is dry, long, and structured.
Pairs well with pike-perch with butter sauce, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or a mild goat cheese. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Drinking window: now until 2027.
