Privy Councillor J. Late Harvest Dry

The Geheimrat J Spätlese dry is the flagship of the Weingüter Geheimrat J. Wegeler — a dry Rheingau Riesling that combines the depth of several top sites in a single wine.

The estate in Oestrich-Winkel works according to the principle of the great Bordeaux châteaux: no single vineyard on the label, instead an assemblage of up to 15 Erste-Gewächs vineyards of the Rheingau. The result is a wine with the complexity of a single-vineyard Riesling, but with its own unmistakable character.

In the glass, it shows a clear, straw-yellow color. On the nose, ripe quince and yellow apple, underlaid by a subtle minerality that is typical for the Rheingau slate soil. On the palate, a lively citrus note — lime, some grapefruit — leads through the wine, supported by fresh, well-integrated acidity. The finish is dry, long, and structured.

Goes well with zander with butter sauce, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or a mild goat cheese. Drinking temperature: 10–12 °C.
