FWT 585
The Penfolds FWT 585 is a red wine that reflects the cool, slow 2021 vintage in every way – structured, with depth and a tannin framework that needs time to unfold.
Penfolds is one of Australia's most renowned wineries and has stood for meticulous craftsmanship in red wine production since 1844. The estate is known for its rigorous blending approach: vineyard sites and grape varieties are not left to chance, but rather carefully selected according to style. The FWT 585 embodies this tradition – a wine that directly conveys its origin and vintage character in the bottle.
2021 was unusually cool and rainy in Australia. Cool temperatures in August and September slowed ripening – a benefit for the acidity and tannin development. Despite the large berry size, the grape skins ripened with promising tannins. The result: a medium- to full-bodied red wine with a fine acidity and a long, dry finish. Expect dark berry fruit, a hint of earth, and subtle spice.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with braised lamb rump, mature cheddar, or a classic roast beef. Drinking window: now until 2030.
