Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz

Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz
The Bin 389 is Penfolds' answer to the question of what happens when Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz mature in barrels that shortly before housed the legendary Grange. No marketing trick — the barrels actually impart depth and complexity that you can feel in the glass.
Max Schubert created this wine in 1960 as South Australia's answer to the great Bordeaux cuvées. Today, the Bin 389 is considered a classic, assembled year after year from several growing regions of South Australia — including Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra. Penfolds pursues a consistent house style: power with elegance, fruit with structure.
In the glass, the wine shows dark ruby red. In the nose, blackberry, black currant, and plum, underscored by cedar wood, dark chocolate, and a hint of tobacco from the barrel aging. On the palate, the tannin structure of the Cabernet combines with the fleshy fullness of the Shiraz — medium to full body, velvety texture, long finish with a spicy oak note.
Drinking recommendation: Now with pan-seared lamb chops, aged cheddar, or a roast beef. Serving temperature 17–18 °C.
