Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz

The Bin 389 is Penfolds' answer to the question of what happens when Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz mature in casks that recently housed the legendary Grange. This isn't a marketing gimmick—the casks genuinely impart depth and complexity that you can taste in the glass.

Max Schubert created this wine in 1960 as South Australia's answer to the great Bordeaux blends. Today, Bin 389 is considered a classic, blended each year from several South Australian growing regions, including Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra. Penfolds maintains a consistent house style: power with elegance, fruit with structure.

In the glass, the wine displays a dark ruby ​​red color. The nose offers aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum, underpinned by cedar, dark chocolate, and a hint of tobacco from barrel aging. On the palate, the tannin structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon blends with the fleshy richness of the Shiraz—medium to full body, velvety texture, and a long finish with a spicy oak note.

Serving suggestion: Now with pan-seared lamb chops, mature cheddar, or a roast beef. Drinking window 2025–2033. Serving temperature 17–18 °C.
