Koonunga Hill Chardonnay
The Koonunga Hill Chardonnay displays a pale, lustrous straw yellow color. Its fruity bouquet of stone fruit and juicy nectarines is harmoniously enveloped in a delicately spicy oak note (reminiscent of freshly grated nutmeg). Honey aromas (from aging on the lees) lend the wine depth. On the palate, it is full-bodied with juicy fruit (melon, peach), softly creamy vanilla, and notes of malt. The fine acidity keeps the finish fresh. The wine was fermented in French oak barrels and aged on the lees. The grapes for Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay are grown in various wine-growing regions of South Australia, with the majority originating from the Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills. This results in the typical, full-bodied Koonunga Hill wine style with pronounced primary fruit character and persistent intensity, underpinned by a subtle, underlying oak note. Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay was the first white wine in the series, launched in 1993. Like its red counterparts, it offers outstanding Australian wine quality at a surprisingly low price.
