Koonunga Hill Chardonnay

The Koonunga Hill Chardonnay appears in a pale, brilliant straw yellow. Its fruity bouquet of stone fruit and juicy fresh nectarines is harmoniously enveloped in a delicately spicy oak note (reminiscent of freshly grated nutmeg). Honey aromas (due to aging on the fine lees) give the wine depth. On the palate, it is full-bodied with juicy fruit (melon, peach), delicately creamy vanilla, and notes of malt. The fine acidity keeps the finish fresh.

The wine was fermented in French oak barrels and aged on the fine lees. The grapes for Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay grow in the most diverse wine-growing regions of South Australia, with the lion's share coming from the Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills. This creates the typical, full-bodied Koonunga Hill wine style with a clear primary fruit character and lasting intensity against a subtle, underlying oak note. Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay was the first white wine in the series to be launched on the market in 1993. Like its red brothers, it also offers excellent Australian wine quality at an amazingly low price.
