Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon

The nose is pampered by a fine scent of eucalyptus and chocolate, the palate is determined by aromas of ripe plums, black cherries, and soft tannins, very delicious!

After fermentation, the wine matures for a few months in oak barrels. The Koonunga Hill wines offer the best Penfolds quality: full-aromatic, with clear varietal character and careful use of wood for the perfect drinking pleasure. In addition to the red Shiraz, Shiraz Cabernet, and Cabernet Merlot, the Koonunga Hill wines also include the white Koonunga Hill Chardonnay and Semillon Chardonnay.

To guarantee that the typically fruity character is preserved fresh and safe in the bottle, all Koonunga Hill wines are equipped with a screw cap.

What does the Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon taste like?

Ripe plums and black cherries dominate the palate, plus a fine eucalyptus and chocolate tone from the nose. The tannins are soft, the finish fruity and round — an accessible, full-aromatic red wine with clear grape variety character.

What does the wine pair best with?

Very good with lamb, beef, and steak from the grill, but also with braised dishes or pasta with hearty sauce. On the cheese side, it harmonizes well with Manchego or Ibérico cold cuts.

At what temperature should I serve it?

Best at 18 °C — i.e., slightly cooler than room temperature. Placing it in a cool room shortly before serving is usually enough.

Is the wine dry?

Yes, it is vinified dry. The fruit sweetness of plum and cherry seems juicy, but comes from the aroma, not from residual sugar.

How long is the bottle shelf-stable after opening?

Sealed tightly again with a screw cap, it keeps well in the refrigerator for two to three days. The fruity character is most lively immediately after opening.
