Elio Grasso Barbera d'Alba Vigna Martina

Elio Grasso picks the grapes for this exquisite Barbera from the approximately 25-year-old vines of his "Vigna Martina" vineyard. The aging takes place in French oak barrique barrels, half of which are new and the other half have already been filled for one year with one of Elio's wines. The result is an opulently fruity, powerful, and smooth showcase Piedmontese.

Period and type of harvest: Last third of September or the first week of October; the harvest is done manually. The production of the Barbera d'Alba Vigna Martina involves a 12-15 day fermentation in steel tanks at a controlled temperature with daily pumping over of the cap of skins with fermenting wine. After the fermentation process in the steel tank is completed, the wine matures for 12 months in French oak barrique barrels, 50% in new and 50% in one-year-old barrique barrels. After bottling, the wine remains in the cellar for at least 8 months before it comes to market.

The Winery

Elio Grasso

Elio Grasso is an Italian winery from the Piedmont region. The Grasso family has always been associated with viticulture in this region, but they only actively dedicated themselves to wine production again in 1980. The winery is managed by Elio Grasso. It is located in the northwest of Italy, about an hour's drive from the city of Turin.

In addition to the vineyards, Elio Grasso has owned a modern wine cellar since 2007, which is 100m long and equipped with French and Slavonian oak barrels.

The total vineyard area of the winery is 18 hectares. For the production of the wines, grape varieties such as Dolcetto, Barbera, or Nebbiolo are used. Approximately 90,000 bottles of wine are produced annually at the Elio Grasso winery.
