Generala Nizza DOCG Riserva

The Generala Nizza DOCG Riserva from Bersano shows what the Nizza appellation from the Barbera d'Asti area in Monferrato is capable of: a Riserva with a structured body and significant aging potential.

Bersano is one of Piedmont's most traditional wineries, cultivating vineyards in the Astigiano region for generations. The Nizza DOCG – an independent Denominazione since 2014 – is considered the pinnacle of Barbera, with deep soils of tuff and limestone that give the grape variety its characteristic density.

After 18 months of aging in barriques and a further 6 months of bottle rest, the wine presents itself with aromatic complexity: black cherry, fully ripe wild berries, along with vanilla and a hint of cedar from the oak aging. On the palate, dense fruit, soft, already integrated tannins, lively acidity – typical of Barbera – and a long, slightly spicy finish.

Drinking recommendation: Drink now until 2028. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with Brasato al Barolo, braised lamb shoulder, mushroom risotto or spicy hard cheeses such as Castelmagno.

Elio Grasso

Elio Grasso is an Italian winery from the Piedmont region. The Grasso family has always been associated with viticulture in this region, but only resumed active wine production in 1980. The winery is managed by Elio Grasso and is located in northwestern Italy, about an hour's drive from Turin. In addition to the vineyards, Elio Grasso has owned a modern wine cellar since 2007, which is 100 meters long and equipped with French and Slavonian oak barrels. The winery's total vineyard area is 18 hectares. Grape varieties such as Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo are used in the production of the wines. Elio Grasso produces approximately 90,000 bottles of wine annually.
