Monfalletto Barolo DOCG

The Monfalletto is the classic of the house — a Barolo that exhausts the entire spectrum of the single vineyard of the same name in La Morra and combines power with accessibility.

Cordero di Montezemolo has farmed the Monfalletto site for generations. La Morra is considered the softest, aromatically most open municipality in the Barolo area — the Tortonian limestone marl soils (Helvetian) give the wines a characteristic suppleness that distinguishes this Barolo from the more tannin-heavy sites in Serralunga or Castiglione Falletto.

In the glass, it shows ripe sour cherry and plum, underpinned by violets, dried rosemary, and a hint of tar — the classic Nebbiolo profile from La Morra. The tannins are present but well-integrated; the acidity gives the medium-weight body support without sharpness. The finish is warm, slightly spicy, with lingering cherry fruit.

  • Food: Brasato al Barolo, leg of lamb with rosemary, mature Parmigiano Reggiano, or truffle risotto
  • Temperature: 17–18 °C, decant at least one hour before drinking

Cordero di Montezemolo

The history of the Italian winery Cordero di Montezemolo dates back to 1340 when it was founded by Pietrino Falletti. Now in its 19th generation, it is owned by Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo and his wife. Located in the Piedmont region, the winery originally cultivated 28 hectares of vineyards, which has since been expanded to 38 hectares through further investment. Among the grape varieties cultivated by Cordero di Montezemolo are Barbera, Chardonnay, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, and Arneis.
