I am 704
The Bin 704 is Penfolds' answer to Napa Valley – consistently in the house style, but clearly rooted in the Californian terroir. Those familiar with the Australian Bin 407 will understand the concept: both wines represent varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, interpreted with the same signature style from South Australia.
Penfolds is one of the most renowned wineries in the Southern Hemisphere – based in South Australia since 1844, today producing wines from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Napa Valley. The Bin 704 was born from the conviction that the Penfolds philosophy – varietal expression, structure, and longevity – also works in California. The name is no coincidence: 704 is the mirror image of 407, a deliberate reference to the Australian original.
In the glass, the Bin 704 displays typical Napa Cabernet aromas: blackcurrant, cassis, and dark plum, underpinned by cedar and a hint of graphite. Aging in French barriques imparts structure without heaviness – the tannins are dense yet silky, and the acidity keeps everything in balance. A long, spicy finish.
Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs well with ribeye steak, braised leg of lamb, or mature cheddar. Drinking window 2025–2032 – approachable now, but improves with some aging.
