50 Years Very Old Tawny wooden case

Five decades in wooden barrels leave their mark — and in the 50 Years Very Old Tawny from Taylor's Port, these marks are extraordinarily complex. Composed of a selection of port wines from different vintages, this limited edition embodies the craftsmanship of one of the most renowned houses in the Douro Valley.

Taylor's has been one of the defining names in the port wine style since 1692 — consistently focused on quality, with its own quintas in the Douro Superior. The 50-year-old Tawny is the result of decades of work by the cellar masters, who check the reserves annually and readjust the cuvée. The characteristic amber tint is created by the long oxidative aging process, which changes the wine from the inside out.

On the nose, caramelized walnuts, dried rose petals, and rum raisins. Added to this are citrus peel, ripe nectarine, and pear, which give the whole thing an unexpected freshness. On the palate, balsamic influences and toffee follow, allowing the finish to fade away long and warm. The Tinta Barroca brings a natural fullness that keeps the wine accessible despite all its complexity.

Best served at 12–14 °C — neat as the end of an evening or with blue cheese, dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, or caramelized walnuts.
