Weissburgunder Löss Klumpp

The Weissburgunder Löss 2023 from Klumpp combines Burgundian substance with cool, mineral freshness. A white wine from Baden that keeps fullness and drive in balance.

The name refers to the soil: loess, a fine-grained, calcareous subsoil that gives many Weissburgunders in Baden structure and freshness. Klumpp bottles the grape variety here as an organic wine.

In the glass, yuzu and grapefruit appear, plus lime peel, green apple, and Nashi pear. White blossoms and a fine nutty accent lie in the background. On the palate, the wine appears silky, carried by lively acidity and a cool, mineral drive. The fruity fullness remains precise and never becomes heavy.

Drinking recommendation: Serve it at 8–10 °C. It goes well with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, fried zander, veal ragout, or fresh goat cheese. It also works well as an aperitif for a convivial evening.

The Winery

Klumpp

The Klumpp winery in Bruchsal is one of the leading addresses in Baden. Founded in 1983 by Ulrich and Marietta Klumpp as career changers, they converted the business to organic viticulture as early as 1996 – pioneers of the organic movement in Germany.

Today, brothers Markus and Andreas Klumpp run the estate in the second generation. The vineyards stretch around Bruchsal on the Rothenberg and Weiherberg sites. The soil: a mosaic of shell limestone, Keuper, loess, and clay marl – ideal for wines with strong character and fine minerality.

Known primarily for Burgundy varieties, Klumpp is regularly awarded top ratings by Gault-Millau, Eichelmann, and Falstaff. Tradition meets modernity – wines full of clarity and authenticity.
