Bruchsaler Chardonnay Muschelkalk

A Chardonnay that focuses on tension instead of fullness: taut, salty, and with a clearly reductive character.

The Klumpp winery works around Bruchsal in Baden, where shell limestone gives the wines drive and saltiness. The soil is already in the name of this organic wine. Aging in wood gives it body and backbone without making it broad.

On the nose, cool quince, a hint of apricot, linden blossoms, and some butter in the background. On the palate, it is clear and finely juicy, with lively freshness. The structure narrows towards the end. Instead of fruit, herbs and a puristic saltiness with a lot of pressure come through. Slight velvetiness, hardly any tannins, dry in impression. The long finish remains salty.

Best at 10–12 °C in a white wine glass. It pairs well with zander fried on the skin, asparagus with brown butter, scallops, or aged mountain cheese.

The Winery

Klumpp

The Klumpp winery in Bruchsal is one of the leading addresses in Baden. Founded in 1983 by Ulrich and Marietta Klumpp as career changers, they converted the business to organic viticulture as early as 1996 – pioneers of the organic movement in Germany.

Today, brothers Markus and Andreas Klumpp run the estate in the second generation. The vineyards stretch around Bruchsal on the Rothenberg and Weiherberg sites. The soil: a mosaic of shell limestone, Keuper, loess, and clay marl – ideal for wines with strong character and fine minerality.

Known primarily for Burgundy varieties, Klumpp is regularly awarded top ratings by Gault-Millau, Eichelmann, and Falstaff. Tradition meets modernity – wines full of clarity and authenticity.
