Old Télégraphe Blanc 'La Crau'

White Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most underrated wines in France — the Vieux Télégraphe Blanc 'La Crau' is a good argument for changing that.

The Brunier family has managed the winery since 1898, today in the fourth generation. The vines stand on the famous La Crau plateau, which is known for its characteristic galets roulés — those round pebbles that store heat during the day and release it at night. The cuvée is traditionally based on Clairette, Roussanne, and Bourboulenc, supplemented by smaller proportions of other southern Rhône grape varieties.

In the glass, a dense golden yellow appears. The nose brings ripe quince, white peach, and beeswax, underneath a herbal undertone — lavender, a hint of anise. On the palate, the wine surprises with an unexpected freshness for the subject: the acidity balances the body, the finish is long, slightly salty, and characterized by almond.
