Old Télégraphe Blanc 'La Crau'
White Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most underrated wines in France — the Vieux Télégraphe Blanc 'La Crau' is a good argument for changing that.
The Brunier family has cultivated the vineyard since 1898, now in its fourth generation. The vines grow on the famous La Crau plateau, known for its characteristic galets roulés—those rounded pebbles that store heat during the day and release it at night. The blend is traditionally based on Clairette, Roussanne, and Bourboulenc , complemented by smaller proportions of other Southern Rhône grape varieties.
In the glass, it displays a deep golden yellow. The nose offers aromas of ripe quince, white peach, and beeswax, with an underlying herbal note—lavender, a hint of anise. On the palate, the wine surprises with an unexpected freshness for this style: the acidity balances the body, the finish is long, slightly salty, and characterized by almond.
Drinking window: now until 2030, with storage potential until 2033. Serving temperature 12–14 °C.
