Taylor's 20 Years Old Tawny DOC

Color: dark, glossy amber with brick-red reflections

Scent: sweetly aromatic and clearly nutty with a fine baked apple aroma (cinnamon, honey, roasted almonds)

Taste: juicy and delicate, somewhat leaner than the Tawny 10, but even more harmonious, very elegant, finely aromatic, and long-lasting

The grapes for the 20-year-old Tawny are harvested by hand, mostly destemmed, and mashed in shallow steel tanks. Instead of using feet as in the past, modern equipment is now used to regularly work the cap of skins into the must to extract a maximum of color, aroma, and flavor from the grapes and skins. Through this extremely careful processing, Taylor's was able to maintain and even increase its quality standard compared to the traditional method. The must is then fermented, and after about half of the sugar has been converted into alcohol, the free-run juice is drained and wine distillate is added. This stops the fermentation, the alcohol level rises, and a natural residual sweetness is preserved. Over the winter, the wines mature in large barrels in the upper Douro Valley before being brought to the port city of Vila Nova de Gaia, where they mature for an average of 20 years in very old wooden barrels with a capacity of 630l.

Taylor’s Port

The history of Taylor's Port dates back to the 17th century, when Job Bearsley, an English merchant, settled in Porto and began producing Port wine. In 1692, his son Peter Bearsley founded the company that later became known as Taylor's.

Since then, Taylor's Port has had a long tradition in the production of high-quality Port wines, which are known worldwide for their quality and refinement. The Taylor's winery is located in the heart of the Douro Valley in Portugal, one of the oldest wine regions in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
