Roederer Cristal Brut Late Release Premium GP 1.5L

The Cristal Brut Late Release 2008 in magnum shows what a cool vintage with long lees aging can achieve: tension, depth, and a clear, salty line. Louis Roederer disgorges this prestige cuvée after around ten years on the lees.

The grapes come from the best chalky sites in Champagne. The 2008 vintage was characterized by cool temperatures and precise ripeness; the soils give the wine its mineral character. With the Cristal, the champagne house Louis Roederer stands for one of the most well-known prestige cuvées in the region.

In the glass, copper-gold with greenish and orange reflections, accompanied by a fine, lively perlage. On the nose, candied citrus fruits, yellow fruits, Williams pear, flower pollen, and roasted almonds. On the palate, powerful and concentrated, with a taut structure and saline-acting depth. The finish is long, clearly contoured, and clean.

Recommendation: Do not decant it, but give it a large glass. Serve it at 8 to 10 °C with lobster, fried scallop, turbot with beurre blanc, or with aged Comté. The magnum is suitable for festive tables with several guests.

The Champagne House

Champagne Louis Roederer

Since the founding of the house in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer winery has been in the possession of the same family. It is now one of the most important independent family businesses in Champagne. Frederic Rouzaud, a direct descendant of Louis Roederer, is the current Directeur Général.

His goal is to invent the champagne of tomorrow so that Louis Roederer will still be a reference in 20 years. The terroir extends over a total area of 240 hectares exclusively in Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites along the Marne river. Since 2001, a gradual conversion of the majority to biodynamic cultivation has been taking place, which is expected to be completed in 2020.
