Osborne Tawny Port
Osborne Tawny Port is a classic, light-bodied Portuguese port wine that proves itself a versatile addition to any port collection. It is sweet but not cloying, with a well-rounded and fresh character, making it ideal for enjoying after work, with dessert, or as an aperitif. The base is a blend of Tawny Port grapes, including typical varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca, and others, which contribute nutty fruit, depth, and balance.
In the glass, it displays a deep, dark red with amber highlights – the typical "tan" tawny color resulting from oxidation in the wood. The nose is full of ripe fruit, with notes of dried apricots, figs, a touch of caramel, and a delicate nutty note that develops into almond and a hint of cinnamon in the glass. On the palate, it is soft, with a slight bite and creamy sweetness supported by a fresh, slightly astringent acidity.
The wine matures for five to seven years in American oak barrels before bottling – long enough to develop typicity, but not so long as it becomes heavy or complex. At around 19–20% ABV, Osborne Tawny Port pairs perfectly with cheese boards featuring hard, nutty cheeses, almond pastries, nut desserts, or simply enjoyed on its own in a small glass at 17–20°C. A port that doesn't need to be sophisticated to be enjoyable.
